OUR STATEMENT ON RECENT EVENTS IN AMERICA

We at the Alpharetta Seventh-day Adventist Church are heartbroken by events happening across our country and in our community. As members of a diverse church family, we are saddened and troubled by the deaths of George Floyd in Minnesota, Breonna Taylor in Kentucky, and Ahmaud Arbery, here in Georgia.

As committed followers of Jesus Christ, while we look forward to God’s soon return to right all wrongs and wipe away every tear, we believe that Kingdom living starts now by speaking out against injustice, standing up for victims of oppression, and valuing all as people loved by their Creator. We unequivocally condemn acts of racism and hatred toward anyone, and we encourage all that are speaking out to do so safely, peacefully, and non-violently.

With all of this in mind, we pledge to do the following:

  1. Make racial injustice an integral component of our church prayer life—both personally and corporately.

  2. Build positive relationships with local law enforcement and representatives to address issues of racial injustice in our community.

  3. Be active facilitators in the ongoing conversation by being a place of refuge for people of all cultures, ethnicities, and backgrounds.

We believe our cultural differences celebrated through oneness in Christ, allow us to thrive as a faith community. We are committed to reflecting the love of Jesus to each member of our community.
